அண்மை காலமாக சிறப்பான ஆட்டம் ஆடி வருகிறார் நமது வங்கப்புலி கங்குலி. சிட்னியில் நடந்த இரண்டாவது டெஸ்டில், இரண்டாவது இன்னிங்ஸில் அற்புதமாக ஆடி வந்த போது, போங்கு அடித்து இவரை அவுட் ஆக்கிவிட்டனர் ஆஸி வீரர்கள். கிளார்க் அப்பீல் செய்த போது, கங்குலி விக்கெட்டை விட்டு நகராமல் நின்றார். முதல் இன்னிங்ஸில் சைமண்ட்ஸ் பாணியை பின்பற்றுகிறாரோ என்று எண்ணினேன். ஆனால் பின்பு தான் அவர் அவுட் இல்லை என்று உணர்ந்தேன். என்ன கொடுமை பென்சன் இது ? மூன்றாவது அம்பயரிடம் அவுட் கேட்காமல், பாண்டிங்கிடம் அவுட் கேட்டால் அது நியாயமா ?

மொத்தத்தில், இந்திய அணி தோல்வியை தவிர்த்திருக்கலாம். இப்போது சின்னப்புள்ளதனமாக அழுதுகொண்டு குறை சொல்லிகொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.

A cheap and best laptop ?

While we still wait on the $100 laptop, Taiwan's Asustek better known as ASUS has rolled out its laptop 'ASUS Eee PC' for $299. This carries excellent reviews already (read the reviews here) and the company hopes to sell half a million units by March this year. The Eee PC runs Linux (Xandros running KDE) and uses an appealing and innovative tabbed based user interface developed by Asustek. The device comes with OpenOffice, a Microsoft Office replacement, and Firefox. It is powered by an Intel processor, the 900 MHz Intel Celeron-M. Rumors are circulating that a new Intel Merom-based ASUS Eee PC may ship as early as April which will run so efficiently that it won't need a fan. The entire laptop will be solid state with no moving parts.

So 2008 introduces a super cheap, flexible, powerful mobile computer.

பில்லா படம் பார்த்தேன். அப்படத்தைப் பற்றி கண்டிப்பாக எழுத வேண்டும் என்று தோன்றியது. இனி பில்லா என்றால் ரஜினி ஞாபகத்திற்கு வரமாட்டார். அஜித்தான் உடனே நம் கண் முன் வருவார். உயரம் தாண்டுதல் போட்டியில் அவனவன் ஆறடி ஏழடி என்று தாண்டும் போது ஒருவன் திடீரென்று இருபது அடி தாண்டினால் எப்படி இருக்கும். அப்படி ஒரு உணர்வு தான் ஏற்பட்டது.

ஆங்கில படத்தரத்திற்கு இணையாக கதையின் ஓட்டத்தை சிதற விடாமல் ஒரு தெள்ளிய நீரோடையை போல் படம் படு சுத்தம். ஒலி/ஒளி பிரமாதம். அடுத்த ஜேம்ஸ் பாண்ட் படத்திற்கு யுவனை தேர்ந்தெடுத்தால் ஆச்சர்யப்படுவதற்கு இல்லை. நயன் தாரா நீச்சல் உடையில் வரும் காட்சிக்கே கொடுத்த காசிற்கான பலன் கிடைத்து விடும். நடனத்தில் மட்டும் அஜித் கொஞ்சம் கவனம் செலுத்தி இருக்கலாம். பரவாயில்லை, சாப்பிடும் போது சட்னியில் இருந்து கருவேப்பிளையை எடுத்து வைப்பது போல் ரசிக்க வேண்டியதுதான். படம் படு தூள்!!

It is created by a Hong Kong company, 'Deke'. It has a hidden camera with a 92-degree field of vision built into the bridge frame of the shades and connected by a small wire to an MP4 in your shirt or jacket pocket. The price is $365.

First Night Pittsburgh

For new year's eve had been to Pittsburgh downtown to watch the celebrations. Left home at 7 and came back at 2. All 7 hrs were full of fun and excitement. The cultural district of Pittsburgh organizes several programs during that night and to top it all they have a 'Ball Raise' event with a fireworks show at the end. This is something similar to the 'Ball Drop' event which happens every year at Times Square. Whenever I enquired my friends who had been to Times Square for New Year's eve, they gave me positive reviews but always ended with a big 'Sigh'. I believe the reason is because of the long wait time there. People start gathering starting from 5pm in the evening. Remember that this period of time is winter and you have to wait in bitter cold for something you are going to watch at a distance. Moreover you do not have that many events happening closer to Times Square that night and if at all you want to attend one, the prices are too high and they are not so close to Times Square. So why not the next time try visiting Pittsburgh for the New Year's eve. I bet you would like it and keep coming again every year.
