வைகோவிற்கு கட்டி!

வைகோவிற்கு எங்கு கட்டி என்று கேட்காதீர்கள். தினமலரில் வந்த செய்திபடி வைகோவின் நாற்பது ஆண்டு கால பொது வாழ்க்கையை பாராட்டி அவருக்கு எடைக்கு எடை வெள்ளிக் கட்டிகள் அளிக்கப்பட்டதாம். பெரிய தராசில் அவரை உட்கார வைத்து எடை போட்டனராம்.

தி.மு.க வின் கூட்டணியில் இருந்த போது மக்கள் மத்தியில் நம்பிக்கை நட்சத்திரமாய் திகழ்ந்தார். ஆனால் அ.தி.மு.க வின் கூட்டணியில் சேர்ந்த பின் இவரின் செல்வாக்கு குறைந்ததென்றே சொல்லவேண்டும். இப்போது தராசு தட்டில் உட்கார்ந்து தமாசு பண்ணிகொண்டிருக்கிறார். ஹையோ! ஹையோ!

ஜிவ்வு!

நேற்று கார்நேகி அறிவியல் மையத்திற்கு சென்று இருந்தேன். அங்கு மனித உடம்பு அருங்காட்சியகம் ஒன்றை வைத்திருந்தனர். இறந்த மனிதர்களின் உடலை அக்கு வேறு ஆணி வேறாக பிரித்து மேய்ந்து வைத்து இருந்தனர். உடல் தசை, மூளை, இருதயம், நுரையீரல், செரிமான உறுப்பு, ஆண்/பெண் இனப்பெருக்க உறுப்பு, 2/4/8/16/32 வார சிசு வளர்ச்சி என்று பலவற்றினை பார்வைக்கு வைத்து இருந்தனர். காட்சியத்தை முக்கால் மணி நேரத்தில் பார்த்து முடித்து விடலாம் என்று எண்ணி இருந்தேன். ஆனால் பார்க்க பார்க்க மிரட்சி அடைந்து புல்லரித்து போனேன். வெளியே வரும் போது இரண்டு மணி நேரம் கழிந்திருந்தது.

ம்ம்ம்.. சொல்ல மறந்து விட்டேன். மனித மூளையையும், நுரையீரலையும் என் கையில் தந்தார்கள்...ஜிவ்வென்று இருந்தது!

iMovies - Coming soon to your handsets

Apple's stock price is constantly on the rise. This year's Apple's launch of the iPhone was a prime booster to the stock.

Yesterday there were reports that Apple is close to announcing a deal with FOX to offer movies for "rent" via its iTunes store. With the iPhone and almost all of the iPods having the ability to run/stream videos, this would be a niche market for Apple. In the near future, if you are a proud owner of an iPhone or an iPod, you wouldn't need to sit idle at the airports when your flight is delayed. Switch on your iPhone and start watching recently released movies!

By the way, where do you think Apple's stock would stand by end of next year ? Probably at 300 ? Maybe!!

அய்யோ போச்சே! போச்சே!

நீங்கள் அமெரிக்காவில் வசிப்பவராக இருந்தால் பாரிஸ் ஹில்டனை உங்களுக்கு கண்டிப்பாக தெரிந்திருக்கும். இவரின் குடும்ப சொத்து அமெரிக்க டாலரின் மதிப்பில் 2.4 பில்லியன் ஆகும். இந்த பண மிதப்பில் தான் என்னவோ இவர் பயங்கர ஆட்டம் போட்டார். 2003ல் இவர் தனது பாய் பிரண்டுடன் செய்த லீலைகள் இணையத்தில் வெளியாகியது. இந்த ஆண்டும் வேறு ஒரு சிக்கலில் சிறைக்கு சென்றார்.

ஆனால் இன்று இவர் தலையில் பெரிய இடி விழுந்திருக்கிறது. இவரது தாத்தா பாரன் ஹில்டன், 2.3 பில்லியனில் 97 விழுக்காட்டை அறக்கட்டளை ஒன்றிற்கு எழுதி வைத்து விட்டார். ஒரு தமிழ் திரைப்படத்தில் கிணறில் பாடி கிடக்கின்றது என்று ஊரே சொல்ல கௌண்டமணி அதை பார்க்க ஓடுவார். கிணறின் அருகே கிழவி ஒருவர் புலம்பிக் கொண்டிருப்பார் 'அய்யோ போச்சே! போச்சே!' என்று. அதுதான் ஞாபகத்திற்கு வருகிறது.

Assasination of Benazir Bhutto

Today was a sad day to hit all the South East Asians. Irrespective of what religion and country we belong we should all condemn this act of violence and terrorism. Bhutto was one strong lady among the male chauvinists in Pakistan.

She will always be remembered in all our hearts and I pray her soul rest in peace.

2008 Events

Here are some important events to watch out in 2008.

1. The 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
2. US Presidential elections and end of Bush's term.
3. Bhutan's first ever elections to make it a democratic country.
3. Completion of Burj Dubai, the new tallest building in the world.
4. Landing of the Phoenix spacecraft on Mars.
5. Karunanidhi probably announcing his heir to DMK.

What are Indians good at ?

Indians are good at something which they excel over the Chinese, Japanese, Britons and Americans. Guess what ?

Tim Ferriss, the author of fourhourworkweek in his blog says that we are good at NEGOTIATION. This he says is one of the prime factors why Indian immigrants in the US are more successful entrepreneurs than their counterparts.

If I try to recollect the instances when I negotiated, I remember the fight with a auto-driver, my mom's daily negotiations with the vegetable vendor at the doorstep, my paati's fight with the fish-lady, my aunt's excellent arguments again at the fish market. She had bought a fish for Rs 60 which was at Rs 120 when the argument began.

Sabeer Bhatia had negotiated his hotmail.com from $160 million to a whooping $400 million and made a successful deal with Microsoft. Now that's Negotiation at its best.

விஜய் டிவி நிகழ்ச்சிகள்

முன்பெல்லாம் தொலைக்காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் அவ்வளவாக நகைச்சுவை தென்படாது. திரைப்படங்களில் வரும் நகைச்சுவை காட்சிகளை மட்டுமே காண்பிப்பர். ஆனால் இப்போது நகைச்சுவையை மட்டுமே கருவாக கொண்டு பல நிகழ்ச்சிகள் ஒளிபரப்பாகி வருகின்றன. இம்மாற்றத்திற்கு வித்திட்டது விஜய் டிவி என்றுதான் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

லொள்ளு சபா, கலக்கப்போவது யாரு, ரீல் பாதி ரியல் பாதி, கிங் குயின் ஜாக் போன்ற நிகழ்ச்சிகள் விஜய் டிவியில் ஹிட் நிகழ்ச்சிகள். அதிலும் இப்போது ரீல் பாதி ரியல் பாதி, கிங் குயின் ஜாக் நிகழ்ச்சிகளின் தொகுப்பாளர் ஜகன் செய்யும் அட்டகாசங்கள் தாங்க முடியவில்லை. அடை மொழிகளில் இவர் சொல்லும் A ஜோக்ஸ் எராளம். உதாரணத்திற்கு பிரியாணிக்கும், குஸ்காவுக்கும் இவர் சொல்லும் விளக்கம் இருக்கிறதே..அடேங்கப்பா!! வடிவேலு பாணியில் சொன்னால், 'உக்கார்ந்து யோசிப்பாங்களோ!'

South Pole

The ComputerWorld magazine's latest edition carries an interview with the IT manager based out of South Pole. I am not referring to any city or town called South Pole. The reference here is to the geographic South Pole.

Here are some interesting details from the interview:

1. As the sheets of ice keep moving, they keep relocating the Pole (yes, there is a official Pole at the geo-South Pole).

2. All longitudes converge at the South Pole. So what time zone can a person at the South Pole follow ? They can follow any time zone. But for convenience, the researchers and the IT staff follow the New Zealand time.

3. The IT support people sometime had to walk in -100 degress F in pitch dark and fix their satellites.

4. They have a club called the 300 Club. They steam in a 200 degree sauna and then run naked around the pole in -100 degrees realizing a 300 degree temperature change.

5. The planes that land closer to the base in South Pole, have Skiis instead of tires.

6. The antenna's point nearly horizontally toward the horizon to pick up satellite signal. The sun always hangs in the horizon and doesn't go as high up as it does here.

My manager requests me in relocating to Minnesota, where the temperatures lure around 0 to 10F. I am afraid of Minnesota's cold; now South Pole will be a graveyard to me.

2008 - A year of recession ?

As we start our countdown to the New year, a bigger concern lies ahead in 2008. Or is it not ?

The Americans have started debating on the expectations of a U.S recession in 2008. A Reuters poll today indicates that 43.4% expect a recession, up from 40 percent a month earlier. This belief has mentally settled in every age and ethnic group. Today Morgan Stanley reported big losses and has added more fuel to the fire. To play safe, bet your money in developing markets! Probably the Indian market would be a safer bet.

Goldman Sachs

Are we in the helm of subprime credit/mortgage crisis ? NO says Goldman Sachs. As their competitors reel and turmoil in the worrying economy and others being bailed out with infusion from the middle east, GS has reported soaring profits.

This year they have a net income of $3.22 billion. Last year they had $3.16 billion and they had announced an average annual compensation of about $622,000 to their employees. So there could possibly be a bonus to the employees again. Lets wait and watch!

தமிழச்சி யார் ?

அண்மையில் நடந்து முடிந்த திமுக நெல்லை மாநாட்டில் ஒரு புதிய பெண்மணியை பார்க்க முடிந்தது. இவர் பெயர் தமிழச்சி. ஆம்! யார் இவர் ? இவரை பற்றிய சிறு செய்தி கீழே!

இவர் சகோதரர் தங்கம் தென்னரசு ஒரு தமி்ழக மந்திரி. ராணி மேரி கல்லூரியின் விரிவுரையாளர். அரசியலுக்காக வேலையை துறந்தவராம். அழகிரியின் ஆதரவாளர் :)

Evano Oruvan

I returned home earlier than usual and watched the movie Evano Oruvan. This movie belongs to a genre of its own. Probably the second movie in Tamil which had no songs. I believe the first one was Kuruthi Punal.

Madhavan and Seeman performances were scintillating. In the climax, Madhavan in his dying moments says, "Sir..Sir..jannal oramaa oru seatu kedakarathukulla uyire poyidum...ippo jannal oramaa ukkaaravaa Sir?". That will move anyone's heart! Kudos for Madhavan to act in such a movie and co-produce it. Hope to watch more this genre of movies in Tamil.

Ice Skating

Long time since I maintained a site and updated it. Here I go again. Resolute to update daily.

I had always thought Ice Skating was as easy as it looked. Man..it was difficult. One would think your legs would ache after you skate. On contrary, the hips ache a lot. One has to stand upright; hold his hands up in front and start moving with small march steps ending with a small slide. These are the toddler steps in Skating. Will share a few photos as soon as I get them.
